What is CWD?

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal neurological disorder that affects deer, elk, and other cervids. Testing for CWD is essential to monitor and control its spread within wildlife populations. Hunters are strongly encouraged to have their harvested deer tested, especially in areas where CWD has been detected. Testing typically involves submitting a tissue sample, such as from the brain or lymph nodes, to a wildlife agency or lab for analysis.

How you can help stop CWD

Early detection plays a critical role in safeguarding local deer populations and reducing the risk of further transmission. To support the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) in combating this devastating disease, I have developed an app designed to streamline the process. The app allows hunters to log their deer’s location which aids in reporting it to MDC, and arrange for CWD testing.
